it works because if you get very injered and need help it wouldn't matter if your getting a 6 figure income or no income you get treated and out you go.

Its cosmedic procedures you;d have to pay for here but in all honesty I can see it being free if its needed like lets say you were born with no face or got into an accedent and had bad scarring I can see that being free. But for issues like "I wanna get a breast enlargement because my friends are doing it" or "I;m changeing genders because i want attention" I think they shouldn't be free untill the person has at least the approval of certifyed thereapests and support of at least 2 family members

wow never thought someone would be on the same boat as me Razz

in all honesty free health care has worked for a while and insurance maybe high here in canada but look at it this way.

It covers:

50% of your medication costs
25% of the ambulance ride (If your Not injered as badly as the one it was intended for but there are exceptions)

almost 80% for eye were (My glasses woulda cost me $800+ I ony paied $46.00)

they pay out almost triple a yearly income if a death happens

and alot more ^^"

Ooh, goody.

Now, I'm not 18, so I'm not affiliated with any party. However, due to people telling me when quizzed and taking some crazy political compass tests, I've discovered that my views are CENTRIST with CONVERSATIVE angles. Those might not be the exact words.

Now, what does this mean? It means that on the economic freedom and political freedom scale, I'm pretty much in the middle. If there was a circle around the middle for Centrist, I'd lean toward the upper left area of that circle if left to right was from least economically free to most economical and up and down was from bottom being least politically free to most politically free. That basically means that lower left is totalitarian and upper right is anarchy.

The way I see things with my Christian view...

I'm a fan of both capitalism and socialism. Socialism is awesome. Have you been to Norway? I have a friend there. He says they get free schools, free healthcare, free lawyers...basically all the necessities are free. Now, if we could just set a government up where all the necessities are government provided and all the luxury items privately owned, that'd be completely awesome! Everything you need would be free and you could spend your time amassing luxury items and whatnot, eh? Everybody would be guaranteed a good life.

Capitalism, however, is great too. You know the saying "free markets breed efficiency"? If you don't, it's because I probably made it up, or else I heard it somewhere and echoed it Razz But anyways, capitalism is an awesome idea too. And it works! But we can't let capitalism run amok. That's why that breed of socialism and capitalism is the best in my opinion. Everybody can have at least a minimum (good) standard of life while still retaining the efficiency needed to create new luxury products and stuff. Innovation wouldn't be stifled.

But what do I know? I'm just 15. What I say isn't important.

This one is better

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one

that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

CENTRIST

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

PostSubject: Re: meh   Mon 17 Jul - 0:57

Hrm, first...my take on my views, separate from the quizzes:

Economically, I'd ideally lean towards a moderate socialism...but I don't know to what extent that would be viable in a country the size of the U.S. We just don't have any comparative example to anticipate the effects...and I'm not an economist, so I can't estimate. I'd settle for a crackdown on larger corporations (say, penalties for outsourcing and enforcement of laws against hiring illegal immigrants), stricter policy with economic rivals like China, and work towards nationalized health care. Capitalism might not be the ideal, but it might be the closest we can come to a workable system in the U.S.

Socially, I'm liberal. I'm all for legalizing gay marriage, or, at the least, civil unions with identical rights, and I'm against making abortion illegal, let alone restricting access to contraceptives or medicine based around sexual health, like the HPV vaccine. I'm a big fan of the Separation of Church and State, too...in the end, the government keeping out of religion isn't just good in a society as pluralistic as ours is now, it's a necessity.

As a student, education is a huge issue for me...I think the entire system, on local, state, and federal level need a re-working. Not only do socio-economic issues really need to be addressed, but we need to definitely reassess the emphasis we put on standardized testing...and I suspect such a reassessment would rule out huge focuses on it like No Child Left Behind instituted. We need to both increase focus and funding for education on a national level, while increasing freedom and options for parents on a local level...say, with an increasing number of vocational, college-prep, and art schools, instead of just the "one size fits all" curricula the current, national policy emphasizes.

Next, quiz results, which I think will come as no surprise to anyone:

"You are a
Social Liberal
(73% permissive)

and an...
Economic Liberal
(11% permissive)

You are best described as a:
Socialist"

"The political description that
fits you best is...

LIBERAL"

PostSubject: Re: meh   Mon 17 Jul - 21:31

I don't have a personal issue with immigrants, though, unfortunately, the debate does seem to bring out a distaste for them in affected areas...still, I think that, politically and economically, illegal immigrants are a liability that has to be dealt with.

I live in one of the biggest states, away from the border, for illegal immigrants to come to...and that means having to pay tons of extra money for ESL programs, not to mention the general extra, education funds, paying money for health care (our state's health care system recently died, essentially), a growth of hit-and-run auto accidents...given the lack of insurance...it's just too big an issue to let it go, even though I wish we could afford to let illegal immigrants come here and have actual, decent jobs.

I'd say...

1) Enforce laws that say it's illegal to employ them. Maybe even increase the fines for such. Illegal immigrants come here for jobs. If we teach their employers that they'll get a perp walk and a profit loss for such stuff, the jobs will dry up, and the illegals will go home.

2) No guest worker program, at least not at the moment. A lot of European countries did something along the lines of a guest worker program, a while back. In the end, a lot of the workers decided not to go home. Hence, a lot of the immigration problem, in Europe. If we're going to have one, we need some clear enforcement of it, and, at the moment, we're not ready for that.

3) No more silly border enforcement. Enforcing the border, in general, is wise...but sending National Guard troops, for example, but not letting them do anything but call in the border patrol, is silly and a waste of troops. Likewise with just building a wall.

4) Get tough on Mexico. They give out pamphlets over there on how to illegally immigrate to the U.S. The country gets tons of income from illegal immigration. Unless we make a point of saying that tacitly promoting such things is unacceptable, they'll just keep doing such things.

Yayy! We agree on *something*! XD I live in CA, southern. So...yep, although it's not *horrible* it's *present*. Razz

Why are you guys so pissed at the illegal immigrants themselves? Why not crackdown on the companies that hire them? Like...Walmart? And stuff like that? :O Once you force them to pay illegals as much as "normal" Americans...then all incentive for hiring them goes away. Unless...the Americans themselves are lazy slobs. In that case, the hardworking illegals probably deserve to have the job better but shouldn't (because they're illegal).

I like that guest worker idea...it should be *enforced* though.

Borders, guys! Stricter but not like Mexico...In Latin/Central/Whatever America, Mexico is the land of dreams. They shoot people down there. So stricter without, you know, gung-ho vigilante style. And no, I don't want a "hi-tech wall" XD

ESL..that's a good idea, but don't increase it. You should *want* to speak English, you know? It's like...you live in America.

I can't believe the DMV has tests in every language.

I know. You're like "lol that's not funny." Well... The signs and things you need to read so you know what's going on and what's illegal and not illegal are in...ENGLISH O:

So if you take a Spanish/Chinese/French/Japanese test...I wouldn't trust you behind the wheel! =P

Lightfang I can tell you with 100% Honesty and experiance A goverment will NOT crack down on a major companey Unless they are breaking a Major law.

Here in nova scotia we passed a No sunday shopping law back in 2001 It stated that Only Small busnesses, Garden centers, Small Rental stores, Gift shops, Coffee shops, and Shops takeing up an area of 150x150 or less space. will be allowed open on a sunday. This also ment big stores will not open the 6 sundays before Christmas like they did in passed years.

About 2 years ago a small fruit retailer "Petes Frutique" Was charged with opening on sunday dispite only haveing the fruit market open. so what he did was run each part seperately (The coffee house, the snak bar) all sepoerately and this started a loop-hole problem in it.

A month ago Sobyes and Super store did the same thing and opened ona sunday. When the goverment got involved it was not pretty. But the people now want sunday shopping and the goverment now wants to fine these people, take them to court and post ploice to enforce this new law.

I know for sure if you lie on an application by saying you are legally able to work but lied about it you can get into ALOT of legal trouble and most companeys really do not care about the fines because to most a $15,000 fine is pocket change.

My views on some things are so varying that I won't bother to put it all up. I'll just go with this:

As a guy I know stated: "Every government works in theory, but not in the real world."

As my dad stated: "Any government is better than anarchy."

I'm in agreement both, and typically don't like the whole 'politics' deal. >_>

Hm, I didn't want to start an entirely new thread for this, and, since capitalism vs. communism came up here, I'll just toss it in.

So, here's my thought for the day: flowers eat Marxism.

Or, more specifically, they're a great refutation of Marxist value theory...which is really already much refuted, but, meh, I'm going to talk about it, anyway. That theory essentially states that every product has a worth proportional to the amount of labor that goes into it...if it takes me twice as much work to build a boat than it does a simple raft, that boat's going to be worth more, because more of my time and effort went into it.

...Do you have any idea how much one, nice, little vase of freshly cut flowers costs? A bit over $70, here. Factor out the delivery costs that are in that, and it's maybe about $50 or $60.

Am I the only one that suspects that it didn't take that much work to make my handful of flowers? Razz
